Our commitment

We want anyone who needs a security provider, or a job with one, to be able to use this website: with a screen reader, with a keyboard and no mouse, with magnification, with captions, with reduced motion, or on a small screen in bright sunlight.

Accessibility is not a project that finishes. This page is written to be checked against, not to reassure. Where we have not tested something, it says so.

The standard we work to

We build this site to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA. That is the level referenced by most public-sector procurement, and it is the level we hold ourselves to.

We do not claim formal conformance. A conformance claim means an independent audit against every applicable success criterion, and this site has not had one. What follows is what we have built and checked ourselves.

What we have done

  • Text contrast. Body text, small labels, and figures were reviewed against their backgrounds and adjusted where they fell short of the 4.5:1 minimum. Several small elements were failing at 4.19:1 and were darkened.
  • Touch and click targets. Interactive controls, including the telephone links in our office listings, were enlarged so that no target is smaller than 24 by 24 pixels.
  • Keyboard access. Every page begins with a "Skip to content" link, and interactive elements are reachable and operable with the keyboard alone.
  • Headings and structure. Each page has exactly one main heading, headings descend in order without skipping levels, and page regions are marked up as banner, navigation, main, and footer so assistive technology can jump between them.
  • Images. Photographs carry text alternatives that describe what they show. Decorative graphics and icons are hidden from screen readers so they are not read aloud as noise.
  • Forms. Every field has a visible label that is programmatically associated with it, required fields are marked, and errors are shown as text rather than by color alone.
  • Motion. The site's scroll animations and counters respect the "reduce motion" setting in your operating system. If you have that setting on, content appears without movement.
  • Language and zoom. Pages declare their language so screen readers pronounce them correctly, and layouts reflow without horizontal scrolling down to a 390-pixel-wide screen.
  • Color. No information on this site is conveyed by color alone.

How it has been tested

Testing so far has been carried out by our web team using automated checks and manual review: keyboard-only navigation, heading and landmark structure, contrast measurement, target-size measurement, and rendering at mobile widths.

This site has not yet been audited by an independent accessibility specialist, and it has not been tested with a representative group of assistive-technology users. Both are worth doing, and neither has been done. We would rather tell you that than imply a level of assurance we do not have.

Known limitations

We are aware of the following, and we are not presenting the site as free of barriers:

  • Documents. PDFs and other downloadable documents offered from this site have not been assessed for accessibility. If you need the content of one in an accessible format, ask us and we will provide it.
  • Third-party content. Where a page links to a service we do not operate, we cannot control the accessibility of that service.
  • Screen-reader testing. Our checks have been structural rather than a full pass with each major screen reader. Something may still read awkwardly, and we want to hear about it if it does.
  • No independent audit or accessibility conformance report exists for this site at this time.

If any part of this website stops you doing what you came to do, tell us. You do not need to know why it happened or what the technical fix is.
